Nothosaurs are a primitive relative of the familiar four-flippered plesiosaurs that gave rise to the myth of “Nessie” the Loch Ness Monster. Our monster, however, was absolutely real. As the lineage grew more adapted to aquatic life, the limbs developed into paddles, and the body became streamlined, as you can see in this exquisitely preserved skeleton. The most special part about this piece , is that it was the first of its kind to be entirely freed from its rocky matrix and mounted three-dimensionally. The original skeleton was over 93% complete, making this the most detailed replica of its kind.
Skull is available separately, see Replica Skulls
