Welcome to the Gold Coast Anthropological Society, the newest
chapter of the Florida Anthropological
Society. This society has been established to provide
a formal means by which individuals interested in Anthropological
studies relating to southern Florida & the Caribbean
Basin may come together to share and promote their mutual
interests.
While those interests may include the broad field of anthropology
our primarily focus is on the archaeological record of southeastern
Florida. We are dedicated to the preservation of that record
and to educating of the public about Florida's rich cultural
heritage.
The
Society is now seeking members to help organize this new endeavor.
A series of guest lecturers is being planned to compliment those
offered by the Museum's other affiliate dedicated to archaeology, AIAsouthFL. There
will also be workshops, field trips, and opportunities for participation
archaeological digs.
An
important mission of the Society is to assist in the stabilization
of the South Florida Archaeological Collection. Volunteers are
needed now to help in that effort which includes the rebagging,
labeling and boxing of one of the most important archaeological
collections in southern Florida.

information about the Society, membership, or the Florida Anthropological
Society may be obtained by contacting Ms. Patty Flynn at pflynn@pbmnh.org.
