A native of Kansas,
Mr. McCartney received his Associates
Degree in archaeology from Wichita State University and has
studied geology and paleontology at the Colorado School of
Mines and University of Colorado at Boulder. As a student
at these institutions Sean was a member of field teams recording
Indian petroglyphs, mapping abandoned 19th century mine shafts,
and excavating Jurassic dinosaurs in the Colorado’s
Morrison Formation. He was the founder and Vice-President
of the Wichita Paleontological Society and was instrumental
in establishing joint field excavation programs between the
WPS and both the Sternberg Museum and the Dallas Paleontological
Society. With an extensive field experience in the Niobrara
Chalk Formation of western Kansas Sean's expertise is focused
upon the fish, marine and flying reptiles of the Cretaceous
Interior Seaway. In addition to being the Museum’s Paleontology
Collections Manager Sean was also the Exhibit Production Manager
for our latest exhibit, “Expedition Dinosaur”,
featuring Cheryll the Triceratops.
Mr. McCartney is now a resident of
Broward County, Florida and is the owner of a local construction
company.
