Gary Beiter

A native of New York, where he earned a B.S. in Biology from Cortland College, and a former US Marine, Mr. Bieter settled in Florida more than thirty-five years ago. His extensive experience in both underwater and field archaeology ranges from being an Assistant Archaeologist on the Warm Mineral Springs Archaeological Project, to teaching Cultural Archaeology at Barry University, to being a Field Supervisor for Janus Research of Tampa, Florida. Gary earned a second BS degree in geology from Florida Atlantic University before completing his MA in anthropology there in 1989. He has also been an archaeologist for the former Graves Museum and served as the Miami-Dade County Archaeologist from 2001 to 2005. In the later position he conducted further investigations of the famous Miami Circle site as well as working a number of other less well-known sites for the County. His work in the Cultural Resource Management (CRM) field has included public archaeology projects from Jacksonville to the Keys and throughout the Everglades.

Gary is also a certified NASDS Senior Diving Instructor and PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor. He previously organized the New York Underwater Archaeological Association and is currently owner of Aquatic Ventures of Hollywood, Florida.

Mr. Beiter is both a member of the Society of American Archaeologists and a Registered Professional Archaeologist.
